November 22, 2005

Chapter II of the Society of Broadcast Engineers held a meeting on Tuesday November 22, 2005. Chairman Glynn called to meeting to order at 1:05 pm. He noted that we would do away with the financial report and reading of the minutes from the previous meeting. He then asked if there was any old business for the group. Then he brought up the new business which included plans for the Christmas party on December 12, 2005 and dues increase next year.

After that Joe introduced Mr. David Nicosia, a meteorologist from the National Weather Service, Binghamton. Mr. Nicosia gave a thorough and informative presentation on many of the recent hurricanes and explained how the different departments within the agency handle tracking and warning information. Several video clips were shown and the way in which decisions on EAS are made was noted. Mr. Nicosia noted that flash flood warnings are critical and urged the broadcasters to make every effort to carry them. He said more people are killed each year by flash floods than tornados.

Mr. Nicosia then took questions from the attendees. At around 2:45 pm Chairman Glynn thanked Mr. Nicosia form making the trip from Binghamton, NY and adjourned the meeting.
